Fall Fact Sheet No. 14 & Compact Action
October 4th, 2011
The Columbia River Compact convened by teleconference at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011 to consider setting another non-Indian mainstem commercial fishing period. At the current in-season estimate for the upriver bright (URB) fall Chinook run, about 1400 URBs remain available for harvest in the non-Indian mainstem commercial fishery. In addition, a few other bright stocks, such as Pool upriver bright fall Chinook, and Bonneville upriver bright fall Chinook could still be in the lower river. The Joint Management Staff recommended setting a 10-hour large mesh opener in Zones 1-5 to harvest the bright stocks remaining below the dam.
