Fall Fact Sheet No. 4 & Compact Action

August 25th, 2016

The Columbia River Compact convened by teleconference at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 25, 2016 to consider ongoing non-Indian commercial fisheries for fall Chinook and the non-Indian recreational fishing during the Buoy 10 sport fishery near the mouth of the river.

Fish passage at Bonneville Dam through August 14 totals a little over 50,000 fall Chinook. Passage is typically 50% complete by September 8. A total of about 628,000 fall Chinook are projected to pass Bonneville Dam this year.

The commercial fleet had caught slightly less than 13,000 fall Chinook through August 22. A total of 51,600 fall Chinook were predicted to be available to the commercial fleet through August. Catches typically are volatile towards the end of the early fall season (August).

The estimated Buoy 10 kept catch through August 23 totals 10,200 fall Chinook and 1,600 coho. Participation has been high, but the catch less than modeled.

Fall Fact Sheet No. 4 is appended in the form of a PDF file. The subsequent Compact Action Notice is posted as well.
