Fall FactSheet No. 2 & Compact Action

August 17th, 2010

The Columbia River Compact convened by teleconference on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. to consider non-Indian and Treaty Tribal commercial fishing periods during the eraly fall (August) time period.

A total of 8,481 fall Chinook were harvested in four non-Indian commercial fishing periods in early and mid August out of 9,900 Chinook expected to be caught during the commercial openers already completed. But even though under quota for fall Chinook, a higher percentage of the catch was comprised of lower river hatchery (LRH) stocks, otherwise known as tules, than expected. Fishing periods modelled by the Joint Management staff for the remainder of August are intended to access remaining upriver bright (URB) stocks available during this time period.

Treaty Indian fisheries also are discussed in Fall Fact Sheet No. 2, which is appended as a PDF file, as well as the subsequent Compact Action Notice.
