Fall Fact Sheet No. 3 & Compact Action
August 7th, 2009
Due to much higher than expected catch rates for the first two fishing openers of the early fall fishery, the Columbia River Compact reconvened on Friday, August 7 to consider revisions to already scheduled commercial gillnet seasons for fall Chinook.
At the Compact teleconference, two options were considered: Option 1 was to modify the geographic area for the August 9-10 season to Zones 2-5; Option 2 was to rescind the August 9-10 season entirely. The decision was to choose Option 1, and to monitor ongoing catch rates as the August fishing season progresses. Fall Chinook run-size updates typically are not available until September.
