Summer FactSheet 1 & Compact Action
June 9th, 2010
The Columbia River Compact convened by teleconference at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010 to consider Treaty Indian fisheries and non-Indian commercial fishing seasons for upriver summer Chinook. The summer Chinook run forecast for 2010 is for 88,000 adults to the river’s mouth, which would be 165% of the actual 2009 return. The Compact teleconference attracted a swarm of CCA partisans attempting to jam the commercial Compact. As a result it was a 2-1/2 hour teleconference.
Despite the prediction of a strong run of sockeye salmon, no directed non-Indian fishery for sockeye is anticipated, due to the forecasted weak return of sockeye to the Wenatchee River. Summer Fact Sheet No. 1, concerning non-Indian commercial fisheries, and Summer Fact Sheet 1a, concerning Treaty Indian fisheries, are appended as PDF files, as is the subsequent Compact Action Notice.
