May 13th, 2009
The Columbia River Compact met by teleconference on May 13, 2009 to review stock status, and to consider revisions to non-Indian fisheries. The US v. Oregon Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) met Monday, May 11 and downgraded the upriver spring Chinook run-size to a range of 120,000 to 150,000 fish at the river’s mouth, or less than half of the pre-season forecast of 298,900 upriver spring Chinook.
The recreational steelhead fishery has been delayed until further notice (but will commence not later than June 16). Commercial fisheries in the Select Areas will resume with reduced areas and hours, beginning Sunday, May 17 in the Deep River Select Area. The Blind Slough and Youngs Bay Select Areas will follow on Monday, May 18.
