Young Bay Oregon State Action Notice

March 27th, 2012

During the Compact teleconference held Monday, March 26, fishermen on the line requested anther short opener in Youngs Bay, since the mainstem spring Chinook run has not built up to sizeable numbers yet. Young Bay had been scheduled to be closed from March 26 through April 18 to avoid the potential of cacthing large numbers of non-local stocks that sometimes wash into the bay on spring tides once the spring Chinook run has begun.

Book low water on Thursday, March 29 is at 12:47 p.m.  As fisherman Mike Wullger argued, four hours around low water would not run the risk of catching many upriver fish, and give fishermen who need the money a chance to catch a few Select Area spring Chinook. for which the market is really hungry.

The Oregon State Action Notice setting a four-hour opener in Youngs Bay beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 is appended as a PDF file.
