Winter Factsheet #7 & Compact Action
March 22nd, 2010
The Columbia River Compact convened by teleconference on Monday, March 22, 2010 to consider non-Indian commercial fisheries for spring Chinook. Test fishing results indicate that the number of steelhead in the river is still very high, but spring Chinook abundance is improving. A tangle net opener at this time could result in burning 20% of the available wild winter steelhead impacts for relatively few spring Chinook.
Winter Fact Sheet No. 7 is appended as a PDF file. The Compact did not set a fishery opener. We’ll wait until next week in hopes that the abundance of steelhead will decline. The Compact will reconvene on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
